Some facts about raspberries include:

  • Scotland is famous for growing raspberries. A train called the Raspberry Special ran from Scotland to London in the 1950s.
  • An individual raspberry is made up of about 100 drupelets.
  • One raspberry bush can yield several hundred berries a year.
  • Raspberries are a rich source of vitamin C, manganese, and dietary fibre.
  • Raspberries contain vitamin B1, vitamin B3, folic acid, magnesium, copper, and iron.
  • According to legend, raspberries were originally white. The nymph Ida pricked her finger while picking berries for the crying infant Jupiter, and raspberries have since been tinged red with her blood.
