Today is National Biscuit Day and what better way to celebrate than to enjoy all your favourite biscuits without feeling the guilt!
National Biscuit Day has been celebrated for many a year with multiple stories behind why it is celebrated, including back in the times when, prior to even the sixteenth century, the Greeks, Romans and Egyptian Empires used to roam the foreign shores, bringing with them ‘biscuit snacks’ that would sustain the long journeys out at sea (fresh was no good and would go stale), learning that anything they dried out, kept for longer.
The technique was to grind the flour and bake over a long period of time on a low heat, keeping in the nutrients but releasing the water content, creating a biscuit like bread.
Over the years there are many different forms of biscuits produced all over the world, while in America the distinction of a biscuit would be in savoury form, and a sweet treat would later be named a cookie.
