A Love for Local Food

February is the month of love, so what better inspiration for our February blog post than love; or more specifically our love of local food. 

Stag Bakeries has built an enviable reputation for exceptional quality sweet and savoury baked treats but at the very heart of this is our heritage. We have built our product range based upon provenance, sourcing local foods and ingredients to incorporate into our ever-expanding range. Amongst the most successful of our heritage products is our seaweed collection. Inspired by our island location, our clever bakers set about creating a range that incorporated a taste of the sea. They carefully sourced local seaweed and local salt to use in the bakes. Seaweed Water Biscuit won Best Scottish Speciality Product at the Great Taste Awards and the Scottish Oatcake won the top 3 star Great Taste Award a couple of years later. They are both available from Marks & Spencer, and can be found in the speciality food section in the Food Hall. 

Most recently, we teamed up with Hebridean Smokehouse who smoke oats and butter in one of the last commercial smokehouses in the Islands. Our delicious Smoked Oatcakes are delicious as a stand-alone snack, but really come into their own with a selection of cheeses. 

Stag's cheese straws have also Scottish heritage, thanks to the inclusion of carefully selected Scottish speciality cheeses. The Smoked Dunlop Cheese Straws are available from within Marks & Spencer's speciality food selection in the Food Hall. 

We continually strive to make the very best products. but always maintain a hint of Scottish-ness, whether it's the ingredients or recipe. We'd love to hear what your favourites are.
