Last Minute Christmas Canapes

Whether it's a case of unexpected guests or your short on time, we've put together some ideas to create delicious, tasty canapes - in minutes! All using store-cupboard essentials so there's no need to dash to the shops. 

Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese - simple and a classic! Take one of our traditional oatcakes and spread a generous layer of soft cheese and top with smoked salmon. A squeeze of lemon and sprig of dill (if you have some) will finish them off nicely!

Pea & Prawn - blitz 250g of defrosted frozen peas in a food processor and add a squeeze of lemon juice, crushed garlic, fresh mint (if you have some) and a dash of olive oil. Spoon onto our cocktail water biscuits and top with prawns,

Beetroot & Goat's Cheese - For this classic combination take a generous slice of creamy, rich goats' cheese (such as Moody's Rosary Ash) and top with a slither of fresh beetroot. Works well on a cocktail water biscuit or Smoked Butter Oatcake for more depth

Ham Hock & Apple Chutney - best with a water biscuit, this is easy and oh, so tasty. A piece of ham hock (either some you've spent ages cooking, or, if time is short, peel back the pack!) and add a spoon of tasty, rich chutney

Classic Cheese & Biscuits - don't forget that a slice of cheese and slither of fig would work really well. We'd recommend a cheese with bite, so something like a robust cheddar.
