Taste the Sea in an award-winning Biscuit at Marks & Spencer!

Apr 16, 2015

Our Stornoway Water Biscuit with Hebridean Seaweed and Scottish Seaweed Oatcake have been selected for Marks & Spencer’s new range of branded artisan products. The two savoury biscuits, which have a distinct taste of the sea, are now available in 411 Marks & Spencer stores.

To perfectly depict our island location we took the Scottish Water Biscuit, which was traditionally made for fisherman to enjoy on long journeys, and the rustic Scottish oatcake and combined a unique blend of red, green and brown seaweed that is sustainably sourced from the Isle’s sea lochs. The taste of the resultant savoury biscuits immediately transports you to the ocean and each mouthful has a real taste of the sea.

The Seaweed Water Biscuit, which was awarded Best Scottish Speciality Product 2013 at the Great Taste Awards can be enjoyed eaten on its own and works equally well with many accompaniments such as crayfish, prawns or cheese. Being a Scottish bakery, the water biscuits have also been tested by whisky experts who have confirmed they complement a ‘dram’ of peaty malts and also sweeter Highland / Speyside whisky’s. The Scottish Seaweed Oatcake retains the crumbly, chewy texture synonymous with an oatcake but the addition of seaweed offers a different dimension and eating experience. Again, the oatcakes can be enjoyed straight from the pack, but also provide a good base for seafood and cured meat canapés.

Charlie Macdonald, owner of Stag Bakeries said “As we operate in a very competitive market, we are obviously delighted that Marks & Spencer has selected two of our seaweed lines to be included in their new range of branded artisan products. Marks & Spencer is synonymous with British quality, so we are very pleased that our brand will feature in store. Stag has many loyal customers and this listing will not only ensure that our products are more readily available but it will provide the opportunity to introduce our brand to so many more people. We do remain committed to the independent retail trade and have exciting new products in the pipeline to launch later in the year.”
